Florida Megalodon Tooth Scuba Diving 2020

Florida Megalodon Tooth Scuba Diving 2020

Its time for the annual megalodon tooth scuba diving trip to Venice Beach Florida! Once again, I can’t believe our luck with the timing. The weather 2 weeks prior to our visit was terrible and it stirred up the Gulf of Mexico so bad that nobody was diving because the visibility on the bottom was non existent. Three days before we got there, the storms left and the weather calmed down. By the time we dropped into the water for our first dive, the visibility cleared up to a few feet. Captain Jamie from the Aristakat said that was still not very good, but we are used to diving the black water rivers so a few feet might as well be a mile as far as we were concerned. Fossil Diva and I dropped down the anchor rope and hovered across the bottom, scanning for triangles. Within minutes I found a big one laying flat side up, still covered with ocean dust. What a beauty, too! If I get one whole meg tooth down there across all my dives, I feel like I succeeded so my week was set within minutes of hitting the bottom. Diva struck next with a big tooth just minutes later, her biggest yet diving the gulf. Our second dive that day, Diva went up early and I continued to swim and I came across another sweetheard megalodon. I was thinking this was going to be a banner week! da fossz was also on the dive and he did well too with a nice three inch megalodon tooth that day. The rest of the week was gravy mode. Steadily improving visibility didn’t increase our haul but it did make the dives more enjoyable. I got more more meg on the last dive of the week but there was no way to top the first day for me. Its a good feeling going home with big teeth in the bag. Once again, Florida delivers.
